7 tips for more cosiness on the go - The importance of Hygge when travelling

Who doesn't love travelling? You can marvel at breathtaking natural wonders, discover historical treasures and immerse yourself in fascinating cultures. It gives you the opportunity to explore the world in all its diversity. But between all the exciting moments, travelling can also be a time of restlessness and hecticness. Constant packing, train or flight delays and unexpected incidents can easily cause us to lose sight of the feeling of security and relaxation. This is exactly where the Danish concept of "Hygge" comes in.

For me, Hygge (pronounced "Hü-guh") is more than just a word. It is a feeling, a philosophy of life that emphasises the art of cosiness, contentment and relaxation . It's about finding happiness in the little things in life, be it in the warmth of a fire, being with loved ones or reading a cosy book. Why is Hygge also important when travelling?

Travelling can be hectic and sometimes stressful, but Hygge helps us to create moments of calm and relaxation, even when we are far away from home.

Here are 7 tips on how you can integrate the Hygge concept into your trip:

Tip 1: Comfortable clothes
Instead of squeezing yourself into uncomfortable and tight clothing, pack comfortable outfits. Soft jumpers, cosy trousers and warm socks will ensure that you feel comfortable on the road.

Tip 2: Cosy accommodation
Choose your accommodation carefully. Look for a warm and inviting atmosphere that makes you feel at home. Soft blankets, soft lighting and warm colours can work wonders.

Tip 3: Enjoy tea time
The Danes know how relaxing a tea ceremony can be. When travelling, you should make time for a cup of tea, whether in a café or in your room. The aroma and warmth of tea create a calm, hygge atmosphere.

Tip 4: Plan breaks
Build targeted breaks into your travelling schedule. These can be short walks, reading a book or a short meditation session. Hustle and bustle are not hyggelig.

Tip 5: Enjoy wellness
During your trip, you should enjoy the benefits of your hotel to the full. The sauna offers the perfect opportunity to warm up and relax. Or enjoy a warm bath in your hotel room. Pampering yourself and letting your mind wander - that's Hygge for the soul.

Tip 6: Community games instead of mobile phones
Evenings in the hotel can be hygge when you spend time with your fellow travellers. Play board games, have interesting conversations and create an atmosphere of shared enjoyment.

Tip 7: Bake Hygge happiness
Even if you don't have access to a kitchen while travelling, you can experience the Hygge feeling with homemade cakes or desserts. Many hotels offer homemade treats that you can sample, or you can ask for traditional baked goods in cafés.
