Our History About 1770 the founders laid out some trails and benches in a small forrest south of their church and about another 20 years later a simple and modest restaurant was built, which was visited by the citizien of Hildesheim.
A little salon was set up for dance parties. Musicians from Prag played their music in the summer, also Music from the “Janischaren” of Russia could be listened to from the year 1802 on. In 1805 the musicians of the prussian soldiers - which were situatd in garrison in Hildesheim – showed their repertoire.
When in 1810 the moritz foundation was abolished, the government wanted to sell the forrest, which was containing a stock of enormous oaks, to a carpenter. Therefore the dome master baron Sigismund of Beroldingen became the savior of the wood. He bought it for about 2640 francs.
Together with the former ecclesiastical forrest the Berghölzchen became later property of the monastary. In the year of 1843 a committee for brightening up the Berghölzchen was formed by the chairman of councillor of justice Küchenthal. There were tree groups planted along the incline and in front of the bar was built a terrace.
From 1849 until 1872 the summer theater “Tivoli” was performing in an quarry behind the restaurant, also well-known and famous actors had their appearances there. In 1869 the city of Hildesheim bought the Berghölzchen from the monastry. It is until today among the favorite meeting points of Hildesheim. The beautiful view over the city and the Innerste valley has its own attractions – no matter what season of year.
